Setting goals and handling rejections is very important to succeed in your direct selling business. When I started my QNET business, I did not have any prior business knowledge. However, I could build a successful direct selling business with my family, friends, mentors, and peers’ support. In this article, I will share some constructive advice from my experience building your own business. These bits of advice are action plans, if you choose to implement, will change your life forever.
Goals and Rejection – My experience
First, how many of you have set goals before and how many have faced rejection before? OH! Yes. We have all been there. When starting my business, I struggled and faced a lot of negativity and rejection from setting goals. It happens to everybody. Setting a goal and overcoming negativity is one of the first steps to success. Sometimes, when you set big goals, many people are unhappy with them. We will deal with how to handle such situations and stay focused on your business path.
Many of us set new years resolution every year. Most of these resolutions are not implemented or are forgotten midway. It is never too late to start afresh with a new slate. It does not matter if you haven’t set any goals. These tips will help you set them; however, if you have set goals, fantastic.
These strategic tips will help you set goals and ensure they happen. Because the intentions of setting goals are you want them to happen. I have always set crazy big goals in my life. Because I believe that “if you shoot for the moon, you will at least end up among the stars”. Remember, nothing is impossible to achieve. Everybody can become successful with intent and belief. I want everyone to believe that they can be successful too.
The only thing holding you back is if you believe it is impossible. So keep telling yourself that you can, and you will start believing in it, and it will happen. Life is exciting with things you are excited about and want to achieve.
When I told my close circle of people about starting my direct selling business, they discouraged me. They looked down on me. So, if you are around people who look down on you, put your energy and focus on your goals and how you will make them happen. When people tell you it’s impossible to reach your goals, please do not believe them. They don’t know what is possible. Only you know your true potential and capabilities. Don’t ever take advice from someone you wouldn’t trade places with. If they tell you it can’t happen, ignore such people and do your thing.
Setting Business Goals
Before setting new goals, make a list of all the goals that you fulfilled. It may be a small one like you took time to celebrate with your family, or you finished reading a book or spent time with your friends. Just make a list of all the goals you accomplished. It will give you a positive feel and let you set new goals on a positive note.
- Put your goals in writing.
- Categorise your goals like business goals, personal goals, relationship goals, friendship goals, family goals, etc.
- Why do you need to accomplish this goal?
- How are you going to feel when you accomplish this goal?
- What work needs to be done to achieve this goal?
First, start with smaller goals like – getting up at 6 a.m, eating soaked almonds the first thing in the morning, or getting a 30 min workout at least three times a week. Have daily goals, weekly goals, monthly goals, yearly goals, three-year goals, five-year goals, and ten-year goals. Whatever range of goals you have, make sure you put this list somewhere you can see regularly. It would be best if you visualised your goals regularly.
Your goals might change too. Three months down the lane, you may look at this list and feel like these goals do not align with your goals right now. And that is ok. Change your goals to meet your final destination.
Rejection
Have you ever been in a situation where you have told your family or friends, or close relative about your goals only to receive negative comments like “you can’t do it”, “I don’t think it wise to do it”, or “you don’t need it”? Well, I have come across such situations many times in life. I was very excited to start my own business in direct selling. Many were negative about it when I shared it with people around me. It affected me deeply.
How do I deal with rejection in my business?
- Be prepared. When you set your goals, expect someone to reject them. That way, you are prepared for it and it won’t affect you deeply.
- Use it as Fire. When people say you can’t do it, do it anyway. I am not saying that you should have anger to prove someone wrong. Do it to show yourself that you alone can decide what you can and can’t do.
- They say it to bring you down. Very often, when people say negative things about your goals, it brings you down to their level. They are afraid to lose you or to work hard to reach your level. So, don’t acknowledge them. Do not let anyone bring you down to their level.
- It is not personal. Get over it. When someone says negative things about your goals, it is because they don’t have their own goals.
You have to get what you want from this wonderful world. Ask yourself what you are more scared of – Are you scared of rejection? Or Are you scared of not having the life you dreamed of? If you are hesitant to try new things, like “you are not good enough for a job or your new business idea may not work out”,. Stop overthinking and do it. Nothing bad is going to come from doing something. At the very least, you will have an experience that you can tell your grandkids.
